Rodent Infestation In Victoria Show An Abnormal Increase As The Cooler Months Set In Says Rentokil Senior Field Biologist

02 June, 2009

Rentokil, the global pest control company with “suburb by suburb” expertise says its Victorian control centres have recorded an abnormally high increase in seasonal rodent infestations. This is higher than expected in the Autumn / Winter months says Rentokil’s Senior Field Biologist Peter Lamond.

Lamond said the Rentokil Technical Department was currently assessing the reasons for the unusually high rodent activity.

He said the real concern with rodents in particular was the diseases they spread such as Salmonella

Lamond urged residents to be extra vigilant with sanitation in the kitchen and to ensure holes and access areas such as large gaps under doors were blocked.

“Rats and mice need only a hole the size of a 10 cent piece to get into a home,” Lamond said.

“Pet food should also be sealed in containers and certainly not left out in bowls overnight as rodents are particularly attracted to the food.”

“Rodents not only spread disease they also chew through wires causing damage to computers and electrical equipment and can even cause house fires.”

Rentokil specialises in commercial and residential pest control and recently acquired leading residential pest control firm Dawson’s to enhance its extensive “suburb by suburb” local reach and knowledge.

Rentokil uses the latest technology, products and techniques, and highly trained technicians to minimise chemical usage and pest exposure to humans. For example, the Rentokil hi-tech mousetrap known as ‘RADAR’, which is available to commercial customers, uses motion sensors and C02 to kill rodents.

The new Rentokil Year Round Protection Plan offers residential protection from thirty-five of the most common pests including ants, cockroaches, rodents, spiders, silverfish, stored product insects and more.

The year round protection plan includes regularly scheduled preventive services and inspections with written reports, a fully qualified and licensed pest control technician assigned to your home, recommendations for preventing future problems, and an annual termite inspection.
