  • 3-5mm long and of an elongated oval shape
  • Shiny black to dark brown with brownish legs

Lifecycle

  • Lifecycle usually 6-12 months
  • The larva is up to 7mm long when well fed. The larva is reddish and covered with stiff bristles
  • There is a tuft of long hair trailing from the tip of the abdomen

Habits

  • These pests are relatively destructive and wide spread, and are often associated with bird nesting in roof voids
  • May attack woollens, silk, furs, skins, carpet, felt, upholstered furniture, leather and various stored foods (such as meat products).
