95 years of pest control innovation and expertise

Rentokil started out as an idea of entomologist, Professor Harold Maxwell-Lefroy, and has grown into the world’s leading commercial pest control company and the most recognised brand in the industry.

Since our first commercial pest control contract treating the Houses of Parliament in the UK for death watch beetles in 1914, we have been committed to protecting homes and businesses from damaging pest infestations through pest expertise, service excellence and leading innovation.

The Rentokil library

Starting in the 1960s, Rentokil scientists wrote a series of classic textbooks on pests and pest control.

The Fetcham Injector

Invented by Norman Hicken to treat woodworm in timber and patented in 1948. Over a million were sold by the late 1950s.

The Rentokil Film Unit

The Rentokil Film Unit produced many pioneering films about the threat of pests and won a number of awards.

Australian affiliations and partnerships

In order to help our customers address emerging trends, meet new legislative requirements, solve complex pest challenges and protect their brands, we have partnered with reputable Australian industry bodies and initiated joint efforts to harness technology and innovation, advance food safety and raise the quality of pest control through consumer programs, educational activities and standards adherence.

Australian Environmental Pest Managers Association (AEPMA)

AEPMA sets standards for the pest management industry, provides information to consumers on urban pest control, liaises with regulatory authorities on matters including public safety and the use of pesticides. This partnership enables the ongoing collaboration and development of new initiatives aimed at supporting the goals of both organisations through the creation and adoption of new products, services, industry best practice and standards.

Australian Food Grocery Council of Australia (AFGC)

The AFGC helps companies and the food and grocery supply industry to sustain Australia. With advocacy at its core, they are structured to enable companies to contribute to overall industry policy and strategy and to influence category-specific issues and services. Rentokil’s partnership with AFGC helps food and grocery manufacturers and suppliers make a positive impact through collective action on issues impacting the industry.

Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology (AIFST)

Rentokil has partnered with AIFST who represents food system professionals working in all facets of the food industry: food science, food technology, engineering, sensory, new product development, innovation, regulatory, QA, nutrition, microbiology and food safety, as well as those in leadership positions within the academic, industry and private sectors. The collaboration advocates the role that food industry professionals and suppliers play in ensuring sustainable, safe, world-leading food is delivered to Australia and the world.

Professional Women in Australian Pest Management (PWAPM)

Rentokil has proudly partnered with PWAPM, an Australian association that represents professional women in the industry. There is strong alignment with this industry’s mission to attract, develop and support women in the pest management industry. In what was once perceived as a non-traditional career for women, Rentokil, along with PWAPM are driving for greater opportunities for women and expansion of pest related roles.
