In case you haven’t noticed, we’ve had a summer of both extreme heat and heavy rain; 40+ degrees for days on end followed by torrential and flooding rain. It’s been devastating for many parts of Queensland and northern NSW.

Unfortunately, this type of weather also provides ideal living conditions for termites and we homeowners across the country will experience an increase in termite colonies invading our homes.

At Rentokil, we’ve seen an 8.2% increase in termite infestations nationally since the same time last year and it’s expected to rise before the end of summer. East coast cities have been particularly hard-hit with increases of 11.5% in Sydney and 8.7% in Brisbane.

In light of these dangers, I wanted to share with you a few pertinent facts about termites. There are also many things you can do around the home to protect it from these crafty (and devastating) little creatures – all of which you can see in our interactive home walk-through Why my home?.
